BLUE HEAT HAZE presents a new production of Marius von Mayenburg’s explosive comedic drama Martyr at the Old Red Lion Theatre, for a limited run from 26th-30th January 2027.
‘Like a primed hand grenade’, Martyr is a darkly comic, blunt examination of teenage faith and the dangerous appeal of absolute conviction. What is the role of religion in a contemporary secular society?
The word “martyr” comes from the ancient Greek μάρτυς (mártys), which translates to “witness”. In the original German title, Märtyrer, the word functions as both the singular and the plural form.
